Major markets such as China, the US, Japan, Korea and Europe all have the presence of Vietnamese fruits.

Support connection for consumption of Vietnamese agricultural products

Recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued Directive No. 29 on stimulating consumption, supporting production, business and developing the domestic market. In particular, focusing on supporting the consumption of agricultural products, promoting green and clean production and ensuring food hygiene and safety.

According to representatives of domestic distribution channels, 80 to 90% of agricultural products sold are Vietnamese agricultural products, so connecting the consumption of agricultural products from growing areas to supermarkets plays an important role in ensuring supply for consumers. This also promotes production in specialized areas. Especially from now until the end of the year, when consumer demand is expected to increase.

According to a reporter at a supermarket, 3/4 of the supermarket's large shelves are for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits. Supermarket representatives said that up to now, they have regularly worked with 42 cooperatives and 40 farming households nationwide to ensure agricultural products are supplied to the entire system.

Mr. Le Manh Phong - CEO of GO Supermarkets and Hypermarkets and Tops Market Hanoi said: "We have built 3 transit warehouses in the 3 regions of North, Central and South to facilitate the import of agricultural products into our system. One of our stores can still sell products in different regions, for example, in Hanoi, customers can easily find products not only from the North, such as Bac Giang, Son La, Hanoi, but customers can also have products from Da Lat".

Supermarkets said that to ensure seasonal fruits and good prices, they have to make detailed plans with suppliers for several months, ensure import output and plan preservation, promotional programs suitable for each type of fresh agricultural products.

"Currently, agricultural products account for over 90% of the products at Coop Mart Hanoi. Vietnamese agricultural products are very popular with Hanoi consumers, especially products from the southern provinces," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung - Director of Co.op Mart Hanoi Supermarket.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, due to the nature of fresh products that need to be preserved promptly, ensuring smooth transportation is something that businesses need to focus on.

Mr. Phan Van Chinh - Director of the Domestic Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade said: "We have recommended that provinces and localities organize for businesses to stand up and purchase to ensure uniformity and large-scale goods."

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also recommends that in the coming time, localities need to have a strategy to support production households in remote areas with high-quality agricultural cultivation techniques and appropriate transportation methods to diversify more types of agricultural products that meet VietGap standards on Vietnamese shelves.

Every year our country produces 12 - 14 million tons of fruit.

Currently, Vietnam has about 1.1 million hectares of land for growing potential fruits, especially tropical fruits. These include dragon fruit, mango, lychee, longan, durian, rambutan, etc., which bring high economic value.

In terms of output, our country produces 12 - 14 million tons of fruit each year. This is not only an abundant source of supply for domestic consumers but is also favored and highly appreciated by the international market.

Major markets such as China, the US, Japan, Korea and Europe all have the presence of Vietnamese fruits. In recent times, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has made great efforts in coordinating with ministries and branches as well as directing specialized agencies to negotiate and handle technical barriers to open the market. Along with frozen durian, fresh coconut is the latest fruit to have signed a Protocol, paving the way for official export to China.

Vietnam currently ranks 7th in coconut production in the world.

Vietnam currently ranks 7th in the world in coconut production. With the opening of the market of 1.4 billion people, it is expected that Vietnam's fresh coconut export turnover can increase by 200 - 300 million USD this year and continue to grow strongly in the following years.

Recently, localities in the Mekong Delta region have trained and guided farmers to cultivate according to Gap, Global Gap, and organic standards. When China opened more official export channels, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with localities to disseminate and guide regulations and standards of the Chinese market.

Opportunities to increase agricultural exports

In the past 8 months, our country's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continued to maintain growth momentum when they surpassed the 40 billion USD mark, an increase of more than 18% over the same period last year - a record number.

As the last months of the year approach, agricultural products have more opportunities to accelerate, soon reaching the annual export target. Especially 4 groups of products: Rice, cashew nuts, coffee and vegetables. Enterprises are taking advantage of opportunities from the Protocol just signed with China to accelerate production from now until the end of the year.

Like many domestic fruit enterprises, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu's factory (Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Company) is busy preparing export goods. She is quite happy because the billion-people Chinese market has just agreed to officially import frozen durian from Vietnam.

If in the past 8 months, durian exports brought in more than 1.8 billion USD, the seafood group reached more than 6.2 billion USD, an increase of nearly 8% over the same period last year. Thanks to deep processing and product diversification, factories have signed orders until the end of the year at the beginning of September.

Reduced supply, increased demand... are also opening up many opportunities for products such as rice, vegetables and fruits of our country. According to businesses, if we make good use of the room and opportunities from the markets, it is likely that the entire industry's exports will soon reach the 56 - 58 billion USD mark this year.
