Proposing Guangxi (China) to open its market for high-quality agricultural products of Vietnam

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Guangxi province open its market to high-quality agricultural products from Vietnam that have great market demand in China.
Agriculture - an important pillar of cooperation
According to data from the Asia-Africa Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in 2024, the import-export turnover between Guangxi province (China) and Vietnam reached 41.6 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% over the same period in 2023. With this result, Vietnam has maintained its position as the largest trading partner of Guangxi province for 26 consecutive years.
Highly appreciating the economic cooperation between Guangxi province and Vietnam, Mr. Tran Cuong - Secretary of the Party Committee of the Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi province (China) - said that the scale of trade with Vietnam currently accounts for about 39.1% of the total foreign trade turnover of Guangxi province. Of which, the import and export of fruits between Guangxi province and Vietnam accounts for 1/3 of the total import and export turnover of fruits from China and ASEAN and this is one of many items and fields with great potential for the two sides to promote trade.
Clarifying the potential for cooperation between the two sides, Mr. Nguyen Huu Quan - Head of the Trade Office in Nanning (China) - commented that Guangxi province plays the role of the main gateway for Vietnam's agricultural exports to China. Of which, fruits account for more than 40% of the total agricultural import-export turnover between the two sides and more than 30% of the fruit import-export turnover between ASEAN and China. According to preliminary statistics, for every 10 durians sold in China, 7 are imported through the border gates of Guangxi province.
Affirming that the space for agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Guangxi province is still very large, recently, the International Trade Newspaper of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, citing information from the Ministry's International Report, also said that agriculture is an important area of cooperation between Guangxi province and Vietnam.
According to the International Trade Journal, as an open border between China and ASEAN countries, Guangxi Province has increased agricultural exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam and ASEAN member countries. Currently, Guangxi Province has become an important channel and distribution center for fruit trade between China and Vietnam.
Notably, in addition to developing agricultural trade, Guangxi province is also making efforts to exploit new cooperation opportunities in the agricultural sector with Vietnam such as: Agricultural e-commerce, agricultural industry and agricultural technology exchange...
“Guangxi province encourages enterprises to invest in agriculture in Vietnam. At the same time, it also establishes pilot zones for opening up and agricultural cooperation in Baise city, Chongzuo city, Pingxiang city, Fangchenggang city and Dongxing city in Guangxi province; encourages enterprises from both sides to cooperate in building pilot smart farm projects in border areas to promote the development of the entire modern agricultural industrial chain” - the International Business Newspaper reported, adding that by the end of 2024, 18 agricultural enterprises in Guangxi had registered to invest in Vietnam.
Promoting trade facilitation, opening up agricultural products
During the meeting with Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China) Chen Gang, which took place on the morning of February 19 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also repeatedly mentioned agricultural trade cooperation between Vietnam and Guangxi province.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Guangxi province promote opening the market for high-quality agricultural products of Vietnam.
In the spirit of unified awareness and decisive action, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Guangxi Province and Vietnam coordinate to promote trade scale, prioritizing the maintenance of stable supply chains and the flow of goods between border gates, especially for agricultural and aquatic products.
At the same time, the Minister suggested that Guangxi Province promote market opening for high-quality agricultural products of Vietnam and those with high market demand in China such as avocado, custard-apple, rose apple, etc.
“Vietnam is located in the tropical monsoon region, so Vietnamese fruits have a unique flavor. If both sides facilitate customs clearance, not only will Chinese consumers have the opportunity to access quality fruit products from Vietnam, but it will also contribute to promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation," Minister Nguyen Hong Dien informed, adding that promoting agricultural trade between Vietnam and Guangxi province also aims to expand the scale and gradually balance the Vietnam-China trade balance.
Offering solutions to help Vietnamese agricultural enterprises penetrate deeper into Guangxi province in particular and China in general, the Vietnam Trade Office in Nanning noted that the work of building Vietnamese agricultural product brands and building "credibility" in business needs to be given more attention to ensure sustainable development.
In the coming time, the Vietnam Trade Office in Nanning commits to closely following the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, building a close cooperative relationship with the locality, promoting the role of a bridge to bring Vietnamese agricultural products deeper into the Chinese market, affirming a sustainable position in the international market.
According to statistics from China Customs, in 2024, the import-export turnover between Guangxi (China) and Vietnam reached 41.6 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% over the same period in 2023.
