In the food industry, irradiation treatment technology has become a practical method to contribute to preserving the quality and commercializing global agricultural products. Typically, to be able to export fresh fruit to countries such as the United States, New Zealand, Australia...; The essential condition is that the fruit must be irradiated and the irradiation treatment facilities must be certified as qualified. Toan Phat Irradiation Factory is currently an official partner of the US and New Zealand Ministries of Agriculture, implementing the irradiation program for exported agricultural products.

By using ionizing radiation energy to treat food; Irradiation methods to improve food hygiene and safety have been proven to be benign and bring great socio-economic benefits. Not only does it help prolong preservation time, food irradiation also inactivates harmful microorganisms that cause disease in humans; Prevent the spread of insects and parasites on fruits and vegetables that affect the ecological safety of the importing country. From those benefits, irradiation is expanding export opportunities for countries producing agricultural - aquatic products and other goods.

In the current context, it is extremely important to understand the benefits of irradiation treatment technology and the import requirements of countries; so that agricultural export enterprises can clearly understand the market, comply with regulations, thereby promoting export activities, ensuring product quality and improving business efficiency. Currently, the three most advanced irradiation methods used in the world are irradiation with Cobalt-60 source using Gamma rays, irradiation with E-Beam source using Electron beam and Bremsstrahlung irradiation using X-rays (X-ray). Each method has its own properties and operating mechanism, but all are safe and effective irradiation methods in the processing of goods. To date, irradiation technology has been applied in preserving agricultural products and food in more than 60 countries globally and is recognized by prestigious organizations around the world such as: WHO, FDA, FAO, IAEA, AMA…

To import fresh fruit, many countries set strict requirements for plant quarantine procedures and require irradiation treatment before agricultural products are allowed to be imported into the territory. These requirements are intended to ensure the quality of the fruit; These products do not pose a threat to consumers' health and do not carry insects or pests that affect the ecological security of importing countries.

For the US market, Quarantine Officers from the US Animal and Plant Quarantine Service - APHIS (under the US Department of Agriculture - USDA) will be sent to work at Vietnam's irradiation plants, with Licensing to carry out plant quarantine procedures and irradiation treatment before customs declaration and export. For markets such as New Zealand and Australia, the process of quarantine processing and issuance of export eligibility certificates helps avoid the case of goods being returned once they arrive in the importing country; or destroyed due to not meeting regulatory requirements, thereby limiting major economic losses for businesses and fresh fruit exporters.

With a system of machinery and irradiation technology that meets operating standards, experts from the US Department of Agriculture and the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture have come to test and evaluate; Toan Phat Irradiation Plant (TPI) is a unit in Vietnam qualified to irradiate fresh fruits for export to the US and New Zealand markets and is currently an official partner of the Ministry of Agriculture of these two countries.

In addition to being qualified for irradiation and issuing irradiation certificates, Toan Phat Irradiation Factory always complies with requirements on irradiation dose, product specifications and conditions for storage, transportation, import/export of goods...; to ensure reputation and efficiency when providing services to businesses. At the same time, not stopping there, Toan Phat Irradiation continues to control the process, upgrade the irradiation treatment system, and make efforts to negotiate with the Ministries of Agriculture of other countries towards cooperation; become an irradiation treatment unit and promote the fresh fruit export market.
