2025: Agricultural sector aims to export 70 billion USD of agricultural, forestry and fishery products

Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first two months of this year reached 9.38 billion USD, up 8.3% over the same period last year. It is expected that the export turnover for the whole year will reach 70 billion USD.

According to the Report of the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products (AFF) in February 2025 is estimated at 4.4 billion USD, up 37.2% compared to February 2024, bringing the total AFF export turnover in the first 2 months of this year to 9.38 billion USD, up 8.3% over the same period.

Of which, the export value of agricultural products reached 4.89 billion USD, up 4.5%; the export value of livestock products reached 72.2 million USD, up 4%; the export value of aquatic products reached 1.42 billion USD, up 18.6%; the export value of forestry products reached 2.68 billion USD, up 11.9%; ...

By region, Asia is Vietnam's largest export market with a market share of 42.2%. The next two largest markets are the Americas and Europe with market shares of 24.2% and 15.5%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the estimated export value of Vietnam's NLTS products in the first two months of the year to Asia decreased by 1.6%; America increased by 19.8%; Europe increased by 22.3%; Africa increased by 2.2 times; Oceania increased by 8.2%.

In terms of detailed markets, the United States with a market share of 22%, China with a market share of 17.8%, Japan with a market share of 7.7%, are the three largest export markets for NLTS products of Vietnam. Compared to the same period last year, exports to the United States increased by 18.9%, China decreased by 4.3%, Japan increased by 19.1%.

Most of Vietnam's main agricultural, forestry and fishery export products have increased export value such as: Seafood, coffee, rice, wood and wood products, rubber, pepper, etc. Notably, rice and vegetables 2 are products that always achieve good growth in 2024, but decreased by 13.6% and 11% respectively, while cashew nuts decreased in both volume and value.

Specifically, the export value of seafood products in the first 2 months of the year reached 1.42 billion USD, an increase of 18.6% over the same period in 2024. China, Japan and the United States are the 3 largest markets for seafood products of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 23.3%, 15.5% and 13.8% respectively.

Coffee exports in the past 2 months reached 284 thousand tons, worth 1.58 billion USD, down 28.4% in volume but up 26.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The average export price is estimated at 5,574.5 USD/ton, up 76.3% over the same period in 2024. Germany, Italy and Japan are the 3 largest coffee consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 16.6%, 9.4% and 8.2% respectively.

The export value of wood and wood products in the first 2 months of 2025 reached 2.52 billion USD, up 12.4% over the same period in 2024. The United States is the largest consumer market of wood and wood products of Vietnam, accounting for a market share of 55%. Japan and China are the next two largest markets with market shares of 11.7% and 9.8%, respectively.

Rubber exports in the first two months of the year are estimated at 280.6 thousand tons, worth 532.9 million USD, down 5.9% in volume but up 24.8% in value over the same period in 2024. The average export price is estimated at 1,899 USD/ton, up 32.6% over the same period in 2024. China is Vietnam's largest rubber consumer market with a market share of 78.1%. The next two largest markets are Malaysia and Indonesia with market shares of 3.4% and 2.7%, respectively.

Pepper exports in the first two months of 2025 reached 28 thousand tons, worth 188.7 million USD, down 9.4% in volume but up 51.9% in value over the same period in 2024. The average export price of pepper in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at 6,750.5 USD/ton, up 67.7% over the same period in 2024. The United States, Germany and India are the three largest pepper consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 24.8%, 10.7% and 8% respectively. Rice exports in the first two months of 2025 reached 1.1 million tons, worth 613 million USD, up 5.9% in volume but down 13.6% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The average export price of rice is estimated at 553.6 USD/ton, down 18.3% compared to the same period in 2024. The Philippines is Vietnam's largest rice consuming market with a market share of 38.6%. Ivory Coast and Ghana are the next two largest markets with market shares of 15.9% and 12.3%, respectively.

The export value of fruits and vegetables in the first two months of 2025 reached 724.5 million USD, down 11% compared to the same period in 2024. Vietnam's fruits and vegetables are mainly exported to the Chinese market with a value proportion of 46.5%. The next two largest fruit and vegetable export markets are the United States and Thailand, with value shares of 8.3% and 5.3%, respectively.

Cashew nut export volume in the first two months of the year reached 62.4 thousand tons, worth 424.8 million USD, down 31.8% in volume and 13.7% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The average export price of cashew nuts in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at 6,811.5 USD/ton, up 26.7% over the same period in 2024. The United States, the Netherlands and China are the three largest cashew nut consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 21.7%, 11.8% and 7.1% respectively.

Speaking at the "Launching Ceremony of the 6th Agricultural Economic Journalism Award", Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said: "In 2025, the agricultural sector will continue to face many challenges, especially climate change and the need for green transformation. However, the Ministry aims to reach an export target of 70 billion USD in 2025, with synchronous solutions and strong determination.”
