Developments in agricultural product exports in the first month of 2025

In January 2025, the average export price of Vietnam's agricultural products recorded mixed increases and decreases.
According to Mekong ASEAN calculations based on data published by the General Department of Customs, in January 2025, the import and export turnover of agricultural products reached 2.84 billion USD, down 7.6% over the same period last year (YoY).
Of which, agricultural export turnover reached 1.88 billion USD, down 14% YoY; imports reached 959 million USD, up 3% YoY.
Regarding exports, in the month, some major agricultural export products of Vietnam recorded a decrease compared to the same period last year. Specifically, rice export turnover reached 324 million USD, down 5.6% over the same period; cashew nuts with 254 million USD, down 27.5% YoY; vegetables and fruits with 374 million USD, down 23.3% YoY.
In contrast, coffee export turnover increased slightly by 0.3% YoY to 728 million USD; pepper export increased by 25.1% YoY to 87 million USD.
In January 2025, cassava and cassava products export turnover reached 99 million USD, down 48.9% YoY; tea export also decreased by 21.5% YoY to 16.4 million USD.

In the first month of 2025, except for rice and cassava, the remaining items recorded an increase in average export prices. Specifically, according to Mekong ASEAN calculated from data from the General Department of Customs, the average export price of rice in the month decreased by 14.6% YoY, to 593 USD/ton; cassava and cassava products decreased by 27% YoY, reaching 335 USD/ton.
The average export price of coffee in the month increased by 78% YoY, to 5,439 USD/ton; pepper increased by 68% YoY, reaching 6,755 USD/ton; cashew nuts increased by 26% YoY, reaching 6,805 USD/ton; tea increased by 0.1% YoY, reaching 1,693 USD/ton.
Regarding imports, in January 2025, the import turnover of cashew nuts increased by 65% YoY, to 172 million USD; milk and dairy products also increased by 27.3% YoY, reaching 103 million USD; vegetables and fruits increased by 11% YoY, reaching 239 million USD. Imported corn in the month increased slightly by 0.2% YoY, reaching 249 million USD.
In contrast, imported wheat decreased sharply by 31% YoY, reaching 107 million USD; soybeans decreased by 29.6% YoY, reaching 85 million USD.
In January 2025, the average import price of cashew nuts had the highest increase of +55% YoY, to 1,764 USD/ton. Meanwhile, the import price of soybeans decreased by 19.6% YoY, to 462 USD/ton; Wheat decreased by 8.8% YoY, reaching 266 USD/ton; Corn decreased by 2.2% YoY, reaching 249 USD/ton.
