Vietnam's resilient pangasius industry is ready to conquer a new milestone in 2025

06/05/2026

After 2 years of many fluctuations in both export markets and domestic production, the Vietnamese pangasius industry has still steadfastly overcome challenges, adapted flexibly and with strong determination, seizing opportunities to break through exports to markets. Thanks to that, in 2024, pangasius exports will reach 2 billion USD, an increase of 9% compared to 2023. This is a proud result in the overall achievements of both the Vietnamese fisheries and agricultural sectors.

Recently, VASEP successfully organized the "Celebration of Vietnam's seafood exports reaching 10 billion USD". Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien shared: The year 2024 ended - a year of many challenges, conflicts and political instability in a number of countries and regions in the world leading to high inflation, increased unemployment, economic instability in many countries, the impact of market barriers greatly affected Vietnam's seafood exports, including pangasius exports.

Overcoming difficulties in the environment, epidemics, natural disasters, especially Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3) which caused great damage to the industry, affecting hundreds and thousands of farmers and fishermen, impacts from sea freight rates, increased production costs, slow recovery of import prices, pangasius exports still excellently achieved the target set at the beginning of 2024. Pangasius enterprises have made efforts to improve and enhance productivity and quality, taking advantage of the opportunity of increased demand in many markets such as the US, Brazil, Colombia, the Middle East and CPTPP countries to compensate for the decline in China. Thanks to that, pangasius has returned to the export milestone of 2 billion USD in 2024, an increase of 9% compared to 2023.

The above positive results are the result of the close direction and attention of the Government, the Prime Minister, leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, ministries, branches and localities in orientation and direction; The participation of Associations and Industry Enterprises in organizing production, processing, constantly improving product quality, diversifying markets; The consensus and determination of entrepreneurs, enterprises, farmers and fishermen in the whole industry; especially the quickness in seizing market opportunities.

Sharing the joy of the industry's achievements and spreading the spirit of optimism and not giving up in the face of difficulties, at the ceremony, the Association honored Enterprises with outstanding achievements in 2024, including Pangasius exporting Enterprises, including:

After a difficult year in 2023, Vietnam's pangasius exports will begin to recover and grow gradually in 2024. The year 2025 will bring prospects and open a bright era for the entire Vietnamese seafood industry, including pangasius, as the economy continues to recover and demand in major markets begins to increase strongly. China, the US, Brazil, Colombia and countries in the CPTPP market bloc will continue to be important driving forces to help Vietnamese pangasius be chosen for every family's dining table.
