Vietnamese agricultural products still have ample opportunities to break through in the Chinese market

That is the assessment of the Vietnamese Ambassador to China ahead of the 33rd Diplomatic Conference and the 22nd National External Affairs Conference.

According to Mr. Pham Thanh Binh - Vietnamese Ambassador to China, trade continues to serve as a bright spot in Vietnam - China relations in the first half of 2026, Lao Dong Newspaper reported.

Vietnam's agricultural exports in the first half of 2026 recorded positive growth momentum. By April 2026, Vietnam's agricultural and aquatic exports to China reached 3.6 billion USD, up 22.4%, occupying 25.7% of Vietnam's total agricultural and aquatic export turnover to the world. Within which, fruit and vegetable exports reached 415.8 million USD, up 31.4%.

"China continues as a major market for Vietnamese agricultural products. The two sides strengthening coordination to open markets and signing protocols regarding the export of agricultural commodities has created favorable conditions, contributing to promoting agricultural trade to develop more stably," Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh evaluated.

To expand market share, the Embassy of Vietnam in China will strengthen support for enterprises to connect with distribution systems, e-commerce platforms, logistics centers, and major importers in China. Simultaneously, it will promote the expansion of exports to regions retaining substantial potential, such as Northern and Northwestern China, where demand for tropical agricultural products is continuously rising.

Notably, starting from June 2026, the Embassy was officially reinforced with an Agricultural Counselor to boost agricultural cooperation, policy connection, and better support Vietnamese enterprises exporting agricultural products to the Chinese market.

Alongside market potential, the Ambassador also noted that China is continuously perfecting its system of standards and management regulations, setting forth higher requirements for quality, origin traceability, and food safety.

Therefore, localities and enterprises need to concentrate on elevating product quality and tightly controlling the entire production chain from cultivation, processing to packaging and origin traceability, while fully satisfying technical standards of the import market. Simultaneously, pushing forward deep processing is necessary to increase value, diminish seasonal consumption pressure, and limit post-harvest losses. Improving packaging and design in line with new consumer trends, alongside investing in modern cold storage and logistics systems, will also contribute to elevating the competitive strength of Vietnamese agricultural products.

In addition, improving product packaging and design to keep pace with consumer tastes is essential, as the Chinese market increasingly favors eye-catching and modernly packaged products; developing modern cold storage and logistics systems is equally vital. Next is better capitalizing on opportunities from RCEP and ACFTA 3.0 to reduce costs, strengthen supply chain connectivity, and elevate the competitive capacity of Vietnamese agricultural products.
