Vietnam is an attractive destination for US agricultural products

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) records that this country serves as the second-largest agricultural supplier to Vietnam, with fruit being the most preferred commodity item.
US press reported that US agricultural exports to Vietnam have surged strongly over the past 2 years, and more favorable market access is opening up new opportunities for fruit trade activities.
Also according to the Vietnam News Agency, a new report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) demonstrates that the US is the second-largest agricultural supplier to Vietnam, with turnover reaching 4.7 billion USD in 2025 - a significant increase compared to the figure of under 3.5 billion USD in 2024. In the final quarter of 2025, the US was the second-largest fresh fruit supplier to Vietnam, with an 8.3% market share, standing merely behind China.
According to data on the USDA homepage, Vietnam is a nation possessing potential to step up fresh fruit imports from the US, particularly thanks to recent bilateral trade negotiations between the two countries and improved market access for US suppliers. Particularly, fresh fruit export turnover from the US reached 91.1 million USD in 2025. Types of US fresh fruit exported to Vietnam encompass apples (47.1 million USD), peaches (19.6 million USD), grapes (17.6 million USD), and other fresh fruits (1.7 million USD).
Recent trade negotiations have opened up more opportunities for US exporters. On March 16, Vietnam permitted the import of mandarins from the states of California and Florida (US). Experts estimate the potential value of US mandarin exports to Vietnam to reach 5 million USD.
Previously, on June 6, 2025, Vietnam's Plant Protection Department granted import permission for fresh peaches and nectarines from California.
The decision was made following negotiation processes between the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the USDA and the Plant Protection Department, thereby confirming that cultivation methods applied by US stone fruit producers are safe and effective. Experts estimate the annual market value for peaches and nectarines from California at 2.5 million USD.
Also according to Fruitnet, another factor creating opportunities in Vietnam is the improvement in macroeconomic indicators of this nation - the 4th largest economy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - with rising incomes and the development of the industrial processing sector driving demand for imported products.
The USDA report emphasizes that US agricultural exports to Vietnam constitute an important and growth-bound segment in bilateral trade relations, supported thanks to market demand and recent trade agreements.
A growing middle class, along with the development of modern retail and food processing sectors, is driving demand for US agricultural products. Vietnamese consumers day by day highly appreciate US products thanks to quality and safety.
