According to the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 6 months of 2024, the total aquatic product output is estimated at 4,384.7 thousand tons, up 2.7%. Of which, the output of aquaculture is estimated at 2,431.4 thousand tons, up 4.1%; the output of exploited aquatic products is estimated at 1,953.3 thousand tons, up 1.0%.

Aquaculture activities in the first 6 months of 2024 developed stably, localities focused on investing in intensive and semi-intensive farming of some key aquatic products. Aquaculture exploitation continued to be associated with measures to protect and develop resources, effectively implementing solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Aquaculture output in June 2024 was estimated at 869.5 thousand tons, up 3.2% over the same period last year. Output in the second quarter of 2024 was estimated at 2,439.5 thousand tons, up 2.9% over the same period last year. Of which, fish output reached 1,727.1 thousand tons, up 2.8%; shrimp output reached 366.6 thousand tons, up 4.1%.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the total output of aquatic products is estimated at 4,384.7 thousand tons, up 2.7%. Of which, fish reached 3,172.3 thousand tons, up 2.6%; shrimp reached 559.8 thousand tons, up 4.0%, specifically as follows:

Regarding aquaculture: Aquaculture output in June 2024 is estimated at 513.3 thousand tons, up 3.9% over the same period last year. Of which, fish is estimated at 318.8 thousand tons, up 4.2%, shrimp is estimated at 136.8 thousand tons, up 3.3%. Aquaculture output in the second quarter is estimated at 1,364.3 thousand tons, up 4.1% over the same period last year. Of which, fish is estimated at 884.1 thousand tons, up 3.9%, shrimp is estimated at 326.8 thousand tons, up 4.4%. Aquaculture output in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 2,431.4 thousand tons, up 4.1%. Of which, fish is estimated at 1,656.7 thousand tons, up 4.0%; shrimp is estimated at 487.7 thousand tons, up 4.5%.

Pangasius farming: Output in June 2024 is estimated at 164.9 thousand tons, up 4.8% over the same period last year. Pangasius output in the second quarter is estimated at 462.1 thousand tons, up 5.8%. In the first 6 months of 2024, pangasius output is estimated at 831.8 thousand tons, up 5.4% over the same period;

Brackish water shrimp farming: White-leg shrimp output in June 2024 is estimated at 100.9 thousand tons, up 3.9% over the same period last year; in the second quarter is estimated at 233.9 thousand tons, up 5.4%; in the first 6 months of 2024 is estimated at 332.7 thousand tons, up 5.6%.

Black tiger shrimp output in June 2024 is estimated at 26.5 thousand tons, up 2.2% over the same period; in the second quarter it is estimated at 73.2 thousand tons, up 2.3%; in the first 6 months of 2024 it is estimated at 122.1 thousand tons, up 2.3%.

Aquatic exploitation: Aquatic exploitation output in June 2024 is estimated at 356.2 thousand tons, up 2.2% over the same period last year; in the second quarter it is estimated at 1,075.2 thousand tons, up 1.5%; in the first 6 months of 2024 it is estimated at 1,953.3 thousand tons, up 1.0%, of which fish output is estimated at 1,515.6 thousand tons, up 1.1%; shrimp output is estimated at 72.1 thousand tons, up 0.9%.

The output of marine fisheries in June 2024 is estimated at 339.9 thousand tons, up 2.3% over the same period last year; the second quarter is estimated at 1,027.7, up 1.4%; the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 1,864.1 thousand tons, up 0.9%, of which fish reached 1,455.3 thousand tons, up 1.1%; shrimp reached 67.4 thousand tons, up 0.7%.

The output of ocean tuna exploitation in the 3 key provinces for tuna exploitation is estimated at 11,281.7 tons, down 0.3% over the same period in 2023, of which Phu Yen is estimated at 2,356 tons, up 7.1%; Binh Dinh is estimated at 7,500 tons, up 2.1%; in Khanh Hoa is estimated at 1,425 tons, equal to 80.3% compared to the same period in 2023.

In the market, the price of raw pangasius in the Mekong Delta tends to increase slightly. Specifically, in Dong Thap, the price of raw pangasius of size 0.8-1.1 kg/fish is around 26,500 - 27,000 VND/kg, an increase of 50 VND/kg compared to the previous month, in Vinh Long it is 27,750 VND/kg (+250 VND/kg).

Currently, some processing companies are still actively looking to buy more large sizes from 1.2 kg/fish or more to produce orders for the Chinese market, however, the supply of large fish is scarce, leading to a slight shortage in the market. The purchase price of frozen white-leg shrimp in Bac Lieu has decreased by 7,000 - 9,000 VND/kg depending on the type, from 50-100 shrimp/kg, ranging from 71,333 VND/kg (100 shrimp/kg) - 101,667 VND/kg (50 shrimp/kg).

In addition, the purchase price of raw shrimp from factories has also decreased by 2,000-5,000 VND/kg (for the main purchase size of 80 shrimp/kg to large), the purchase price of shrimp at processing factories for the Chinese market has also decreased by 1,000-4,000 VND/kg for most sizes. For oxygenated shrimp, the purchase price at the Mekong Delta lagoon has also decreased by 2,000-7,000 VND/kg.

In the Northern and Central regions, the purchase price of whiteleg shrimp at the pond also tends to decrease slightly or stagnate with the size of 60-100 shrimp/kg, but tends to increase with the size of 30-40 shrimp/kg.
