The US increases promotion of agricultural products into Vietnam.
Currently, there are 3 types of fruit: tangerines, lemons and plums from the US that are in the process of negotiation to officially export to Vietnam in the near future...
Up to now, Vietnam has officially exported 08 types of fruits: grapefruit, mango, dragon fruit, longan, rambutan, lychee, star apple to the US market. In contrast, US agricultural products have reached Vietnamese consumers such as fruits of all kinds: apples, grapes, oranges, cherries, pears, blueberries, peaches and nectarines.
According to the report of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the US exported 3.1 billion USD of agricultural products to Vietnam, becoming the 3rd largest exporter of items such as cotton, soybeans, grains, seeds, wheat, poultry, dairy products, as well as fresh fruits such as apples, grapes, cherries... in 2023.
However, fruits exported from the US to Vietnam are still subject to quite high import taxes, such as 20% plums, 15% blueberries, 20% tangerines... Accordingly, from September 9-13, 2024, the US Department of Agriculture trade delegation led by Ms. Alexis M. Taylor, Under Secretary of Commerce and Foreign Affairs of the US Department of Agriculture, including 58 businesses and agricultural organizations and 09 states, began a series of activities to promote US agricultural products in the Vietnamese market.
Through this trip, a series of trade connection activities between importers and exporters between Vietnam and the US will be held to learn about market conditions in Vietnam and the region.
The delegation will learn about activities at supermarkets, stores, visit factories and production facilities using imported materials from the US such as: nuts, flour, cereals...
On September 9, 2024, attending the program "United Tastes - Discover American Delicacies" at MM Mega Market Vietnam supermarket, Ms. Alexis M. Taylor said that during the week of the program, customers across Vietnam will have the opportunity to shop for fresh products with special offers, up to 30% off on American agricultural products, including: Tyson chicken, premium beef, Envy, Jazz, Fuji apples, grapes, cherries, oranges, beverages such as wine, juice...
According to Ms. Alexis M. Taylor, Vietnam is the 10th largest agricultural export market of the US and the US is the 3rd largest agricultural export market of Vietnam. There are many food products between the two countries that can complement each other. In particular, many types of Vietnamese fruits are not available in the US. Meanwhile, American livestock, poultry, cotton products... have great potential in the Vietnamese market. There is still much room for the two countries' markets to be further explored.
This survey trip also provides US agricultural businesses with opportunities to enter the Southeast Asian region thanks to the participation of potential customers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand.
Market research activities are supported by USDA foreign agricultural service specialists, industry experts and government officials.
Mr. Bruno Jousselin, General Director of MM Mega Market Vietnam, said that this is the third year that MM Mega Market has cooperated with USDA, which has contributed significantly to enhancing bilateral trade when in 2023, Vietnam and the US signed an agreement to export Vietnamese green-skin pomelos to the US and the US brought yellow pomelos to Vietnam
"The visit promises to provide an overview of the retail industry and consumer preferences of Vietnam, contributing to strengthening global business relationships and understanding the dynamics of the Vietnamese market," Mr. Bruno Jousselin expected.
