Korean and Japanese seafood "squeezed their way" into the Vietnamese market

Frozen seafood products imported from Korea and Japan are increasing in Vietnam. This item is not only consumed strongly at restaurants and eateries serving Koreans in Vietnam, but is also favored by many Vietnamese consumers because the price is quite competitive with Vietnamese products.
Mr. Kim Ki Hoon, representative of the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, said that Vietnam is the 4th country among Korean food trading countries; At the same time, it is a country that is extremely close to Korea in terms of economics, culture and the relationship between the two countries.
"Vietnamese people's need for products such as seaweed, canned tuna, etc. is increasing day by day, just like Koreans' love for Vietnamese dishes like pho and bun cha," said Mr. Kim Ki Hoon.
Therefore, with Vietnamese people's increasing demand for food from Korea, recently, the Department of Export Processing Promotion under the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries; AT Center cooperates with MM Mega Market Vietnam supermarket system to organize the Korean Seafood Festival.
Accordingly, from now until the end of June 2024, MM Mega Market supermarkets will display and sell seafood and foods processed from seafood imported directly from Korea with promotional prices reduced by 10% - 20%.

Frozen seafood products imported from Korea and Japan are increasing in Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan, Sales Director of MM Mega Market, said consumer demand for Korean seafood is increasing. The Korean Seafood Festival is an opportunity for supermarkets to continue promoting Korean specialties to domestic consumers.
Meanwhile, Vietnam is also a potential market for Japanese seafood as the number of Japanese restaurants is increasing. Japanese seafood has been accepted by the market for its quality, freshness, and meeting the requirements for eating raw.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in 2023, Vietnamese businesses will import 170 million USD of seafood from Japan, equivalent to 2022.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF); The Japanese government is implementing activities to promote the appeal of Japanese seafood at home and abroad and diversify export markets.
Mr. Toru Yoshimatsu, representative of MAFF, said that Vietnam has many experienced seafood processing factories. Therefore, Japanese businesses choose Vietnam as a processing place, from there exporting to the US, ASEAN countries... Among seafood products, scallops, amberjack and red seabream are Japan's main export products.
Along with imported products being discounted, supermarkets are also launching promotional programs for domestic products to stimulate demand and increase competition for Vietnamese goods.
