In the first four months of 2026, the import turnover of meat and meat products reached 928.8 million USD, a sharp increase of 37.6% compared to the same period last year.

According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Authority, over the past 4 months, imports of pork and pork products alone reached 163.2 million USD, accounting for 17.6% of the total import turnover of meat and meat products.

The imported fresh and frozen commodities primarily consist of: poultry meat, buffalo meat, pork, beef; edible offal of pigs, buffaloes, and cattle after slaughter; and other meat products. The primary markets supplying these products to Vietnam are Russia, Brazil, Spain, Germany, and others.

The import volume of meat and meat products increased amidst high domestic pork prices, while the price of industrial chicken dropped sharply.

A report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that live hog prices in the Northern region increased by 1,800 VND/kg in April compared to March 2026, rising to 64,000-66,000 VND/kg. Live hog prices in the Central-Central Highlands also rose by 1,600 VND/kg, fluctuating between 63,000 and 69,000 VND/kg. In the Southern region, live hog prices went up by 2,200 VND/kg, standing at 68,000-69,000 VND/kg.

Conversely, poultry prices showed mixed trends across regions. Notably, the price of colored-feather broilers in the North decreased by 2,200 VND/kg to 48,000 VND/kg; the Central region saw a decrease of 4,500 VND/kg, falling to only 43,000 VND/kg, and the South dropped by 300 VND/kg, retreating to the threshold of 45,000 VND/kg.

While the price of industrial chicken in the North plummeted by 9,000 VND/kg to only 19,000 VND/kg, it rose by 5,000 VND/kg in the Central region, reaching 27,000 VND/kg. In the South, industrial chicken prices also increased by 2,000 VND/kg, climbing to 29,000 VND/kg.
