3 export commodity groups grew billions of USD
The General Department of Customs said that in the first period of April (April 1-15), the country's total export turnover reached 15.03 billion USD; down 14.3% (equivalent to a decrease of 2.51 billion USD) compared to the second period of March 2024.
Export turnover in the first period of April decreased compared to the second period of March 2024 due to a decline in many key product groups such as: computers, electronic products and components; decreased by 954 million USD (corresponding to a decrease of 27.3%); Phones of all types and components decreased by 480 million USD (corresponding to a decrease of 19.3%); machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts decreased by 274 million USD (corresponding to a decrease of 13.7%); Iron and steel of all kinds decreased by 189 million US dollars (equivalent to a decrease of 37.9%); Textiles and garments decreased by 145 million USD (corresponding to a decrease of 10.6%)...
However, from the beginning of the year to the end of April 15, Vietnam's total export turnover still grew at a high rate of 15.8% (equivalent to an increase of 14.73 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2023; reached 107.82 billion USD.
Notably, there are 3 product groups with turnover increasing by 1 billion USD or more. Leading the way were computers, electronic products and components, with an increase of 4.83 billion USD (equivalent to an increase of 34.4%). From the beginning of the year to April 15, this product group had the largest turnover in the country, reaching 18.87 billion USD.
Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts had the second largest increase in turnover with 1.18 billion USD (equivalent to an increase of 10.3%). By April 15, this product group reached a turnover of 12.63 billion USD.
Cameras, camcorders and components increased by 1.05 billion USD (equivalent to an increase of 69.7%), this is the third billion-dollar growing product group in the country. Cumulatively from the beginning of the year to April 15, this product group reached a turnover of 2.55 billion USD.
Trade surplus in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 71.5%
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the first 4 months of 2024, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated to reach 19.06 billion USD, an increase of 23.7% over the same period in 2023.
Along with that, imports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 14.32 billion USD. Thus, the industry's trade surplus in 4 months is 4.74 billion USD, an increase of 71.5%. In April, the export value of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries reached 5.14 billion USD, an increase of 19.7% compared to April 2023; Of which, main agricultural products were 2.83 billion USD (up 29.2%), forest products were 1.39 billion USD (up 18.6%), and livestock were 40.8 million USD (up 5.9%). Seafood alone is 730 million USD (down 1.5%).

In general, in the past 4 months, the industry's export product groups all increased, so export turnover increased. Contributing to this result are: Agricultural products 10.44 billion USD, up 32.5% over the same period last year; forest products 5.18 billion USD, up 22.8%; seafood 2.68 billion USD, up 4.2%; livestock 152 million USD, an increase of 3.6%.
Most key products are higher than the same period last year such as: Wood and wood products reached 4.84 billion USD, an increase of 23.7%; coffee 2.57 billion USD, up 57.9%; rice 2.08 billion USD, up 36.5%; Cashew nuts reached 1.16 billion USD, up 21.2%; fruits and vegetables 1.8 billion USD, up 32.1%; shrimp 937 million USD, an increase of 5.9%.
Many items had a significant increase in average export prices such as: rice reached 644 USD/ton, an increase of 22.2%; coffee 3,402 USD/ton, up 49.7%; rubber 1,487 USD/ton, up 6.9%; pepper 4,214 USD/ton, up 36.4%. Cashew nuts alone are at 5,375 USD/ton, down 8.4%; tea 1,632 USD/ton, down 2%...
Regarding the market, export value to all markets increased. Among them, exports to Asia increased by 19.8%; Americas increased by 24.6%; Europe increased by 38.6%; Oceania increased by 26% and Africa 332 million USD, increased by 33.3%.
The United States, China and Japan continue to be the three largest import markets for agricultural, forestry and fishery products in Vietnam. Specifically, export value to the United States accounted for 20.1%, an increase of 25.7%; China accounted for 18.9%, an increase of 15.1% and Japan accounted for 6.9%, an increase of 9.6%.
Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 4 months of 2024 exceeded 1.8 billion USD
According to data from the General Statistics Office, fruit and vegetable export turnover in April 2024 is estimated to reach 520 million USD, an increase of 33.9% over the same period in 2023.
Accumulated in 4 months, exports of this industry brought in 1.804 billion USD, up 32.1% over the same period.

Fruit and vegetable exports in the first 4 months of 2024 exceeded 1.8 billion USD
Vegetable and fruit exports were favorable throughout the previous year and the growth momentum continued in the first 4 months of 2024. Export orders increased strongly, so in the first quarter of 2024, the fruit and vegetable industry earned 1.3 billion USD. This is the first time fruit and vegetable export turnover has reached over 1 billion USD in the first quarter.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vnfruit), the major contributor to fruit and vegetable turnover is still durian. Last year alone, this fruit contributed more than 2.2 billion USD to the industry's export revenue of over 5.6 billion USD.
Fruit and vegetable exports to major markets in the first 3 months of 2024 all grew positively.
Leading in export value is the Chinese market, reaching 759.4 million USD, up 32.4% over the same period in 2023; followed by the Korean market reaching 74.6 million USD, an increase of 59.3%; The United States reached 67.7 million USD, an increase of 33.9%; Thailand reached 47.6 million USD, up 112%...
It is expected that in 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports, including durian, will grow even more because more durian growing area codes and packaging facilities may be issued; create favorable conditions for exports.
Vietnam is the second largest durian supplier to China but ranks first in growth rate. Vietnam's durian exports began to increase sharply when the two countries signed the Protocol in July 2022.
In April 2024, pepper exports earned 117 million USD
Pepper exports also prospered, many markets grew at 3-digit levels. In particular, in April 2024, pepper exports continued to increase and were at the highest level in the past 11 months.
The latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that in April this year, our country exported 27,000 tons of pepper, earning 117 million USD. Compared to the same month last year, pepper exports only increased slightly by 2.2% in volume but increased sharply by 40.4% in value.

The average export price of pepper in April 2024 increased for the fourth consecutive month, reaching 4,342 USD/ton, an increase of 37.4% compared to April 2023. In the first 4 months of 2024, the average export pepper price reached 4,214 USD/ton, up 36.4% over the same period last year.
