Exports of wood and wood products increased by 23.5%

According to the General Department of Customs, it is estimated that in May 2024, the export value of wood and wood products reached 1.25 billion USD, down 8% compared to April 2024, but up 18.1% compared to May 2023. Of which, the export value of wood products is estimated at 812 million USD, down 13.5% compared to April 2024, but up 5.9% compared to May 2023.

In the first 5 months of 2024, wood and wood product exports are estimated to reach 6.1 billion USD, up 23.5% over the same period in 2023; of which the export value of wood products is estimated to reach 4.16 billion USD, up 22.8% over the same period in 2023.

The wood market is recovering, with exports of most wood and wood products growing positively in the first four months of 2024. Of which, wooden furniture exports reached 3 billion USD, up 27.7% over the same period in 2023, accounting for 61.4% of the total export value of wood and wood products.

In addition to wooden furniture, there are a number of other wood and wood products exported in the first 4 months of 2024 such as: Wood chips reached 851.4 million USD, up 23.1% over the same period in 2023; followed by wood, boards and flooring reached 621.4 million USD, up 23.9%; wood pellets reached 233.3 million USD, up 9.8%...

In the first 5 months of the year, Vietnam exported 1.44 million tons of rice to the Philippines.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam was the largest rice export partner of the Philippines with 1.44 million tons of rice, accounting for 72.9% of the total rice imported by this country.

The Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines cited the latest data from the Bureau of Plant Industry, Department of Agriculture of the Philippines, saying that from January 1 to May 23, 2024, the total volume of rice imported by the Philippines increased by 20.3% compared to the first 5 months of 2023, reaching 1.97 million tons, much higher than the import level of 1.64 million tons in the first 5 months of 2023.

Since the beginning of the year, the Plant Department has issued 4,066 rice import clearance licenses to importing enterprises.

Vietnam remains the Philippines' largest rice export partner. From January 1, 2024 to May 23, 2024, Vietnam exported 1.44 million tons of rice to the Philippines, accounting for 72.9% of the Philippines' total rice imports. Thailand ranked second with 300,227.24 tons, followed by Pakistan with 144,834.50 tons, and Myanmar with 65,080 tons. The rest were imported from India, China, Japan, Cambodia, Italy, and Spain.

In 2023, the Philippines' total rice imports will reach 3.6 million tons, down 5.9% from the record 3.82 million tons in 2022. In 2024, the Philippines' total rice imports are estimated to reach around 4 million tons.

Pepper exports earn 487 million USD in 5 months

According to the General Department of Customs, it is estimated that in May 2024, Vietnam will export 30 thousand tons of pepper, worth 135 million USD, up 14.4% in volume and 15.9% in value compared to April 2024; up 3.7% in volume and 49.9% in value compared to May 2023.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam's pepper exports are estimated at 113 thousand tons, worth 487 million USD, down 14.1% in volume, but up 19.7% in value over the same period last year.

It is estimated that in May 2024, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper will reach 4,492 USD/ton, up 1.3% compared to April 2024 and up 44.6% compared to May 2023. In the first 5 months of 2024, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper is estimated to reach 4,308 USD/ton, up 39.3% over the same period last year.

Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has boosted pepper exports to many traditional markets such as the United States, India, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Egypt, etc., but reduced exports to the United Arab Emirates. Pepper exports to many markets have increased sharply in both volume and value. Notably, pepper exports to the German and South Korean markets have grown by up to three digits.

Coffee exports earn 2.9 billion USD

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, it is estimated that in May 2024, Vietnam's coffee exports will reach 95 thousand tons, worth 400 million USD, down 37.5% in volume and 30.2% in value compared to April 2024; down 36.5% in volume, but up 3.9% in value compared to May 2023.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Vietnam's average coffee export price is estimated to reach 3,482 USD/ton, up 49.9% over the same period last year.

Notably, according to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), in May, businesses exported 71,569 tons of Robusta coffee beans, with a unit price of 3,920 USD/ton and 6,831 tons of Arabica coffee, with a unit price of 3,888 USD/ton. Thus, the export price of Arabica coffee is 32 USD/ton lower than Robusta.
