Enterprises exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products strive to 'speed up'

06/05/2026

With impressive results in the first 6 months of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has raised the export target of agricultural, forestry and fishery products for the whole year to 2 - 3 billion USD higher than the target assigned by the Government. This is also a premise for export enterprises to accelerate their efforts in the last months of the year.

In 2024, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group (HAGL) plans to harvest at least 300 - 400 hectares of durian. Of which, the total output in Vietnam is about 800 tons. The planted area in Laos is also expected to receive the first amount of fruit this year. HAGL of Chairman Doan Nguyen Duc (elected Duc) is one of the listed enterprises that heavily invests in durian with a total area in Vietnam and Laos of more than 1,970 hectares.

Raise goals, improve quality

Sharing about these plans, Bau Duc said, HAGL makes durian at a price of 15,000 VND/kg, selling at any price is profitable. Every day the company continuously welcomes groups of traders to inquire and buy at the garden. Even though the durian is still young, Chinese traders still want to buy it and are willing to deposit at attractive prices. He affirmed that in the next 10 years, durian will still not be enough to supply consumer demand.

Durian is the leading export fruit in the first 6 months of the year with a value of 1.5 billion USD.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, durian is the leading export fruit in the first 6 months of the year with a value of 1.5 billion USD. Thanks to continuously breaking many records, this year durian sets an export target of 3.5 billion USD, an increase of 55% compared to last year. An additional 2 billion USD is needed for the durian industry to reach the record goal, but the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association believes that this is a completely feasible goal.

In the first half of this year, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 29.2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period last year. The GDP growth rate of the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector reached 3.38%, the highest in the first half of the last 5 years.

Export value to the US, China and Japan - Vietnam's three largest agricultural, forestry and fishery export markets, is also increasing. Of which, the United States accounted for 20.7%, an increase of 20.8%; China accounted for 20.2%, an increase of 9.5% and Japan accounted for 6.7%, an increase of 5%.

With this result, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has raised the yearly agricultural, forestry and fishery export target to 57 - 58 billion USD, 2 - 3 billion USD higher than the target assigned by the Government at the beginning of the year.

Change thinking, invest in technology

Not only in the field of agricultural products, the fisheries industry is also having many new opportunities for the last months of the year. Realizing that the US is a market with many growth opportunities for exports in the last months of the year, many businesses have built plans to boost exports to this market.

Mr. Le Van Quang, General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Group Joint Stock Company, said that the company plans to sell 20% of its output to the US market this year. To do that, the company perfects and promotes commercial shrimp farming using MPBiO biotechnology, creating high quality shrimp products.

As for G.C Food Joint Stock Company, ESG certification is the "card" the company aims to expand its export market share in the US and Europe. In 2024, G.C invested in machinery to produce small-sized products for 1 person to use at once, with the goal of selling to supermarkets in Europe and the US. However, currently the "king of aloe vera" only has main export markets: Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, China, and the Middle East; A small part is exported to Europe. In the long term, if you want to increase the scale of exports to Europe and the US, especially to Europe, ESG standards are a mandatory factor.

“Currently, most buyers when working with GCFood ask whether they have ESG certification or not. The company has researched, but also encountered difficulties. Hopefully in the next 1-2 years we will be able to do this," said Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and also said that the company is looking for a consultant on the roadmap and is expected to complete it this year.

Returning to the story of durian - a key export fruit, with great expectations from exporters in the last months of the year. According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam is the second largest market supplying fresh durian to China. Currently, the room to enter this market is still very large. To increase market share, the durian industry needs to focus on stabilizing output and product quality.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association Nguyen Thanh Binh, to manage the quality of durian fruit; Local authorities and specialized agencies need to monitor the implementation of the production process, from input materials to care, harvesting...; Strict management to prevent competition in buying and selling paintings from disrupting the market; At the same time, check and supervise the issuance and use of growing area codes and packaging facility codes correctly and effectively; Accelerate investment in logistics infrastructure in concentrated production areas, transit hubs, seaports, airports, border gates...

According to analysts, although the agricultural sector has achieved many positive results, it still mainly exports raw goods with low processing content, so the value and level of competitiveness are not high. This is not a sustainable and effective direction. To expand export market share, especially to European countries and the US, Vietnamese businesses need to change their thinking and invest in modern technology to meet strict standards.

To best complete the goals, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it will deploy many solutions such as continuing to strongly develop the market, removing barriers, and facilitating the consumption of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In addition, strengthen coordination with Embassies, Commercial Counselors, and Agricultural Counselors to collect and provide information, tastes, needs, and update policies and regulations for businesses and localities. .

At the same time, continue to coordinate with localities to direct rice production in accordance with weather and market developments; Closely monitor the production of industrial crops and fruit trees, especially for key fruit trees to have appropriate crop direction; Increase the percentage of products with safety certification, VietGAP.
