Besides the main product of frozen Vietnamese pangasius fillets, consumers in many markets around the world also prefer other pangasius products, including frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius with HS code 03032400.

By the end of August 2024, the export of frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius with HS code 03032400 to markets reached more than 168 million USD, accounting for 13% of the total export of pangasius from Vietnam. In particular, August 2024 was recorded as the month when this product reached the highest export value, with more than 29 million USD. Vietnam exported frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius to 73 markets worldwide.

China continues to be the largest consumer market for frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius from Vietnam. In the first eight months of this year, exports of this product to China reached more than 93 million USD, accounting for 55% of the total value of Vietnam's exports of frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius to markets. The localities in China that import the most frozen whole pangasius products from Vietnam include Guangdong, Shandong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Hunan and Anhui...

There are 46 enterprises participating in exporting frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius to China. Of which, Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company exports the most HS 03032400 products to China, accounting for 28% of the proportion and reaching a value of nearly 26 million USD. After Truong Giang, Nam Viet, Hoang Long, Vinh Hoan, Cadovimex II are the suppliers of whole butterfly-cut pangasius to China.

China mainly imports frozen pangasius fillets. However, since the second half of 2023, this market has gradually paid more attention to other pangasius products from Vietnam. In 2018, frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius exports only accounted for about 15% of total pangasius exports to China, by 2022 the proportion had increased to 25%.

Colombia is the second largest consumer market for frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius from Vietnam, with an export value of 13 million USD in the first 8 months of this year, accounting for 8% of the total export of this product to markets. Vietnam has 12 enterprises participating in exporting frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius to Colombia. Vinh Tien is the largest supplier of this product to Colombia, with nearly 8 million USD, accounting for 59% of the proportion. Nam Viet Joint Stock Company, Phat Tien Seafood Company Limited, Ben Tre Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company, and Vietnam Global Textile Company Limited are behind Vinh Tien, as the top enterprises exporting frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius to Colombia, with proportions of 27%, 7%, 3% and 1% respectively.

In addition to China and Colombia, consumers in the US, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Iraq, Canada, Russia, the UK, and Uzbekistan also import frozen whole butterfly-cut pangasius from Vietnam. These markets all account for 2% of the total export value of this product from Vietnam.

Vietnamese pangasius products such as butterfly-cut whole pangasius are increasingly popular in international markets. Searching for and expanding customer base, promoting communication for other potential pangasius products to maximize advantages will be a proactive direction for businesses in the future.
