On June 16, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ca Mau province stated that the locality has established a sea crab cultivation raw material zone spanning an area of more than 30,400 hectares with an output of over 14,500 tons, while simultaneously granting codes to 5 enterprises serving the official export of sea crabs to markets such as China, Cambodia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This move is expected to create additional momentum for the sea crab commodity sector to develop in a professional direction, step-by-step elevating the value of the local specialty product in the international market.

Along with the issuance of export codes, the Fangchenggang Small and Medium Enterprise Association (China) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Vietnam Fisheries Society to build an official export value chain for Ca Mau sea crabs.

According to functional sectors, this cooperation agreement holds significant meaning in strengthening linkages among production, processing, and consumption stages; while contributing to resolving existing difficulties within the sea crab industry value chain. This also serves as the basis to build a stable consumption market, heading toward the sustainable development of one of the province's key seafood products.

Information regarding the expansion of official exports has received great concern and high expectations from crab farmers within the province. Mr. Nguyen Van Quan, a sea crab farming household in Hung My commune, Ca Mau province, shared that his family is producing under an integrated shrimp-crab farming model on an area of over 3 hectares, bringing in a revenue of over 100 million VND each year.

According to Mr. Quan, over the past period, sea crabs were primarily consumed through local traders, serving the domestic market or exported to China via unofficial channels, so prices frequently fluctuated. The fact that enterprises are granted codes for official export will help expand the consumption market, creating opportunities to stabilize selling prices and raise incomes for the people.

Ca Mau is currently the locality with the largest sea crab farming area in the country. According to agricultural statistics, from the beginning of 2026 until now, the province has maintained more than 365,400 hectares of sea crab farming, with output reaching 21,339 tons, an increase of over 10% compared to the same period in 2025.

Besides, the locality is maintaining 120 key sea crab farming zones with a total area of approximately 50,000 hectares. Multiple efficient production models are being replicated, such as sea crab farming integrated with improved extensive giant tiger prawn farming and farming according to VietGAP standards.
